Colour-Coordinated Modular Floating Dock on a Mooring

Background

A customer with a newly purchased RIB approached us seeking a bespoke floating dock solution. Their main request was for a pontoon that not only functioned as a secure docking system but also matched the grey and black colour scheme of their new boat. Additionally, the dock had to be secured to an existing mooring.

Challenge

The key challenges in this project included:

  • Designing a floating dock that aesthetically complemented the customer’s RIB.
  • Addressing local authority concerns regarding potential strain on the existing ground chain when the RIB mounted and dismounted from the dock.
  • Ensuring the solution was both functional and compliant with safety standards

Solution

Customised Design

We created a floating pontoon using a combination of grey Eirglide modules and black standard modules, achieving a seamless colour match with the customer’s boat.

Mooring Integration

To tackle concerns about the dock’s effect on the mooring system, we collaborated with Marine Services. Their HSA-certified dive team conducted underwater inspections and load tests on the ground chain. By simulating the pressures of the RIB driving on and off the pontoon, they ensured the chain remained unaffected.

A comprehensive report, supported by photographic and video evidence, confirmed that the mooring system could safely support the dock without risk of displacement or damage.

Outcome

The customer successfully received a colour-coordinated, drive-up floating dock securely attached to their existing mooring. This solution provided:

  • A perfect aesthetic match to their new RIB.
  • Assurances of safety and compliance through rigorous testing.
  • Long-term protection for the boat, keeping it out of the water and free from marine growth.
  • Enhanced fuel economy and performance through reduced hull drag.
