The Problem?
In the inner coal harbour, in Dun Laoghaire, the local council had a problem in that a set of access steps to the water for boats was often overcrowded with public users and small businesses often complaining about the lack of access in the area.
Part of the frustration was also at low water, the area was unusable due to silting and rocks boats could not safely get close enough to the steps for safe boarding and egress.
The solution?
Airfloat designed a modular pontoon that would alleviate all of these issues by providing a safe platform with cleats and fixings to allow boats to tie up safely to the pontoon alleviating the frustration caused.
The challenges?
As well as a safe platform, the pontoon had to be able to rest on rocks at extremely low tide and not be damage. Airfloat is built so strong that it has no problem resting on rocks and an uneven seabed with no damage as the unique modular system can flex to absorb the contour of the rocks even in the most extreme scenarios.
To fix the pontoon to the wall as the pier is a protected structure no boring could be carried out. Airfloat using their unique cable guides and some strong weights designed a system that is complimentary to the existing pier wall while also keeping the pontoon safely alongside in all winds.
The result?
A happy client and more importantly happy users commercial and leisure alike for Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
